If I Could Talk To Animals

So I've been marathoning Misfits recently, yeah I know finally, and it got me thinking about what powers I'd like to have if I were in the series. If you haven't seen the series a huge storm happened and lots of people, including all of the main characters, got super powers. One was immortal, one can hear people's thoughts, one could turn back time, one could turn invisible, and the other could um make people want to have sex with her. I didn't understand the last one being a power really but since the first episode loads of other powers have been revealed including the ability to bring people back from the dead, spoiler alert they all end up being zombies and eating people so that's kinda a rubbish power. 

It reminded me of when we were kids and asked what our power would be if we had one and we always imagined ourselves with the ability to fly or have super human strength. I think if I were to get a power like this I'd want to be able to talk to animals, ya know like Eliza from The Wild Thornberrys, or Doctor Dolittle. Wouldn't that be awesome? 

I think first I'd want to just sit down with my little kitten Oliver and ask him a few questions, if I was treating him okay, did he want me to do anything differently, and that if he had a problem he could come talk to me now instead of screaming the house down. 

I might then take this as an opportunity to go through with my plans to volunteer at the zoo or the SPCA, using my powers for good. Obviously not shouting out to the world that I can talk to animals but you know helping the proper workers understand that hey this animal doesn't actually like carrots unlike his other cage mate and would love it if you gave him more celery. Something like that. 

Or I could finally be a foster mum for the SPCA like I had also planned to do at some point in my life. I could take care of the tiny wee kittens who had lost their mums and teach them how to be a kitty and let them tell me if they needed extra milk one day or needed a check up cuz they were feeling a little weird. 

Obviously there could be so much more I could do with these powers but I reckon it would be nice just to use them to help out everyday situations instead of going on the news yelling I CAN SPEAK TO ANIMALS!!!!

Meet Oliver

Just over two weeks ago this little chappy joined Brad and I in our little house. I felt that as he's already had his debut on Instagram that it was about time he met the rest of the internet! Meet Oliver, an 11 week old silver tabby cat who's the cheekiest adorable bugger ever. 

We went along to his birth mothers house with high hopes of falling in love with either of the four little kittens she had and as soon as they were released from their cage we were hooked on his adorable face and unique markings. They were all incredibly cute and I did almost walk away with more than one but living on a student budget *sob sob*. At this point he was quiet, well behaved and really shy... which has long since passed!

Now two weeks have passed and he's gotten used to both of us and the house he's the craziest kitten ever and you wouldn't believe he was shy when we first met him. Well as long as another person doesnt enter the house then he runs straight under the lazy boy and stares at them through the little cat sized gap. He loves to play with his mouse, cables, plastic bags, cables, ribbon, cables and human body parts. But who can be angry at that adorable face? 

I'm as kool as a kangaroo

I held a koala!!! And stroked a kangaroo!! And it was amazing and I got to cross things off my bucket list!! Woop woop! While we were in Australia we couldn't not go see the native animals could we? Although the zoo was a few cities over we actually were staying near Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary which held all the animals we were interested in anyway. Due to construction in some areas of the park it was actually much cheaper to go visit so we took this as a sign that we should definitely visit, especially as the construction didn't actually put any of the animals off limits. We saw loads of native animals like dingos, wallabies and crocodiles, unfortunately the wombats were in hiding to the dismay of the women in the family. They actually had an albino dingo at the sanctuary who causes so much mischief he had to be separated from his family in another enclosure! (although that meant there wasn't much chance of photos of him) 

Did you know there was such thing as a tree kangaroo? I'm not sure if they're related but him and his proper kangaroo buddy are pretty similar looking if you think about it. The kangaroos were in a large enclosure that humans were able to go into and feed them. However they were all pretty chilled and too relaxed to go eating the little pellets. I fell in love with a little baby joey chilling with his mum in the shade of a tree, the amount of photos I took of him it was hard to choose one to include in here. There was also a very young joey who was chilling in his mums pouch and she was constantly flicking her feet at him to stop him wriggling! Now all I have to do is pet a meerkat and my animal goals are complete!

So hello 2015; come in, make yourself at home, have a cuppa! A new year has begun and hopefully a new section of life. It's not really hard to see that 2014 hasn't been the best year for me at all but there were a few things that made it worthwhile. Bradley and I celebrated 1 year together just 5 days ago and without him 2014 would probably not have been manageable so woo thank you amazing best friend and boyfriend. I also went on an amazing holiday to Australia that I've just returned from that was probably one of the best holidays I've ever had (more posts on this later with photos woo)! But all in all I'm glad this year is over. With it being new year and all I decided to make some resolutions, however I have just the one this year: 

This can't really be hard so I'm really doubtful that I'll break it but that's not the point. I didn't want to make a list of things like I normally do and then break them before January has finished. I wanted to make one open resolution that means if I want to do yoga for a week and then give up I can, or if I want to do the thing where I say yes more sometimes I can, or say I want to give up sugar for a fortnight I can. There's no restrictions or set deadlines as any of these three things will add to a better year than 2014. So to be cliche - today is the start of a 365 paged book, try and make the story worthwhile. Happy New Year! 

Artist Attraction #2 | Lizzie Mackay

Another artist discovered on Pintrest: Lizzie Mackay... aren't her illustrations beautiful! There's just something about any nicely drawn animals that just make me want to look at every single other piece the artist has produced and these are no different. I had to google her and spend a good hour or so looking through all her pieces on her website here, I really recommend a look as I'll definitely be using some of her work as inspiration for my own x

100 Day Project - Update 1

It's day 15 on the 100 day project and I've been keeping up much better than I thought I would really. Here's quite a few of my days as a little update post as I said I would post some as time went on. I'm only really happy with about three of my days; Simba, Timon and Pumbaa, and Stitch.. the others not so much. I think it may be that I'm a bit rushed for timing, one picture a day is actually really big for me as I normally take forever to finish one drawing so I'm doing okay.  I am pretty impressed with my range of media to be quite honest, although there's only like 4 different types I've used so far normally I only use pencil for my Disney sketches so this is an improvement at least x

We're going to the zoo zoo zoo, how about you you you?

Today was such a cute little outing with the friendlings. Wellington zoo was only $2 entry today for some reason so we decided to make the most of it and wait the 30-40 minutes in line to get in. Even though we're all heavily overloaded with uni work including myself (excuse the lack of posts at the moment) we decided it was a much needed break and got together and explored all the animals habitats. Unfortunately the wind was rather in your face so a few of the animals were sheltering inside their little huts but for the most part we had some amazing fun. 

Sorry for the very heavily imaged post but it's worth it for the cute animals. I must say the otters, giraffe and meerkats were my favourites of the day and if we had gone in earlier I'm sure we would've stayed until closing time just the same. I think I probably jumped around and squealed more than the kids around the park but it was the best way to spend a sunny, if not incredibly windy, afternoon x
