Perfect Winter Polishes

Friday, 19 June 2015

I used to be obsessed with painting my nails with wacky intricate designs which you can actually see some here on my nail art tumblr. I used to spend every sunday night painting a new design for the new week but since starting uni I've gotten less and less interested and it's gotten to the point where I don't actually paint my nails all that much. However I still love having my nails painted I just don't have the time, so when I do end up painting them it's even more fulfilling! A lot of the northern hemisphere are blogging about their favourite spring/summer polishes and it's just making me want to pull out my favourite pastel teal polish but it's just not right. My collection (check it out here) is mainly filled with colours like the pastel teal that suit spring and summer and although I have a couple of khaki greens and greys I was really happy to recently upgrade my collection with these two beauties.

I won Essie's 'The Perfect Cover Up' on a Facebook competition for Hannah's blog A Lovely Look and was really excited to receive it and finally paint my nails again. A lovely greeny grey colour that's a perfect autumn/winter colour. I also picked up this Sally Hansen polish in 'Jungle Gem' for a whole $3.50 from Farmers, I was 'umming and arring' about whether to get it or not for $5 and mum pushed me into it and as it turned out even cheaper I'm glad she did! A little less grey than the Essie polish it's still a really nice autumn/winter colour.
I don't really do reds and pinks with nail polish so a gorgeous oxblood colour isn't really my thing so it was great to get these two for my collection especially as they're nothing like what I already have.
Question is which one do I use first?! No seriously tell me!

What's your favourite autumn winter nail colour? Is there one colour you wear the entire 6 months of the year as soon as it's deemed cold enough?

Monday, 9 March 2015

I've had this blog going for a while now and having shared a few insights to my nail polish collection I thought it was about time that I shared the entire thing actually used this post as an excuse to go through it all and chuck out the bad gross ones and the ones I don't ever use. There's a few extras such as top coats, stripers/nail art pens, and gel polishes as well which I didn't include but here's the proper regular polishes! Beware for a very photo heavy post!

Is it really a miracle? | Nail Polish Review

Monday, 1 December 2014
While I was over at my boyfriends house the other week his mum gave me this Sally Hansen Miracle Gel set saying that she struggled with it and wondered if I would have any luck. Now with these no light gel sets becoming all the rage lately I decided to wait to post this review until my nails had chipped. I did have some better luck with the set and although I do like the look I'm not sure it's doing what I would want from a gel manicure. Although I've never actually had a proper salon gel manicure I'm pretty quizzed up on the positives. Sally Hansen says that this manicure should last for up to 14 days with brilliant shine, so far I've had mine on for 5 days and it's started to chip. I will add that I was putting up a Christmas tree today so I'd give it a few extra days but it's still far from the promised around 14 days. Also they recommend 2 coats of colour and 1 coat of top coat, however as many people say it's better doing thinner coats I did 3 coats of colour and it's still not as opaque as I would like. I feel like this set gives the same look a regular polish and a really good top coat would give so I'm not exactly going to be running out to the shops for another colour. I will however give this another go with another layer and less Christmas tree making and see how it goes.

Beauty is sugar coated.

Monday, 3 November 2014

With moving, the last hand ins for uni, and Brads family coming down to visit I've hardly been able to read a blog post let alone write one. I have a few posts in mind from now but forgive me a tiny bit. We've been busy unpacking boxes, arranging furniture, and buying things like a microwave. If things weren't expensive and I wasn't paying rent for two places this would be so much fun but ya know with all that it's just a normal amount of fun! With all this going on we've hardly had anytime for ourselves but I did manage to drag Brad along to the Make-Up Clearance pop up store the other day. I picked up a few things and I'm pretty happy with most of them. The one thing I love about these popup shops is that Sally Hansen nail polishes are only $3 each and it's so bloody worth it. Of course there's only a select amount of colours but I normally manage to pick up a few I like. I walked out with SH Sugar Coat in Sour Apple, Xtreme Wear in Chocolate Nut, and Insta-Dri in Lightning. I'm excited to try out the sugar coat as I've seen a bit about it and I'm not sure how it'll work out but I'll be sure to do a review soon with my thoughts. I also grabbed a new Baby Lips in Quenched mainly cuz it was in the American packaging and I have a thing for packaging oops but it also was only $3. However I wasn't as pleased getting home with the ColourSensational Popstick in Orange Crush as I thought it was a nice pigmented lipstick due to the fact you're not allowed to open them to have a look and you're shoved in every direction by other women. I will find use for it though as it's nice to have a sheer lip product to use on its own occasionally or to use with cheaper branded lipstick to keep it nice and moist and for only $5 and about 3/4 of the price it'll do. Another fiver deal was the shampoo, not that much of a deal as I can get this deal other places but while I was there I thought I would shove it in my basket!
