GAVIN AND STACEY
I swear I’ve mentioned my love for Gavin and Stacey at least once on the blog but boy do I love it. As far as I'm aware it's not that popular anywhere outside of the UK. It’s a British comedy sitcom that follows a long distance relationship between, you guessed it, Gavin and Stacey. The writers Ruth Jones and James Corden also star as the couple's best friends, Nessa and Smithy, so as you can imagine they have the best one-liners! The first episode shows the four of them finally meeting and going on a double date and the story just develops from there. If you get British humour I really do recommend you try at least the first series and I bet you'll be hooked. James Corden may be pretty famous nowadays but he’ll always be Smithy to me. Also, this show is the reason I can rap Kanye West’s part of Estelle’s American Boy…
RICK AND MORTY
I know there are a lot of mixed opinions on Rick and Morty but I love it and I personally feel if you can accept that it’s only going to get weirder and it’s never going to be normal then you’re hooked. The series follows super mad scientist Rick and his mini sidekick, easily influenced grandson Morty. The adventures of Rick and Morty take place across an infinite number of realities, with the characters travelling to other planets and dimensions through portals and Rick's flying car. It's weird but you get connected to the characters and it's bloody hilarious and actually pretty clever how some of the minor storylines interlink.
FRESH MEAT
Another British comedy show which I would initially describe as like The Inbetweeners but so much better. It revolves around six fresher University students - Vod, Oregon, Josie, Kingsley, JP, and Howard - who have been shoved into a shared house off-campus after missing out on halls. Basically, six very different people who wouldn't ordinarily be friends are now having to live together, what could go wrong? This is actually the perfect show to watch while in University because at any time your life will be going ten times better than theirs. Anything that could go wrong does and hey they become sort of friends, cute right?
FRIENDS
I mean do I even have to go into this? I swear most of us have seen every episode about a million times. At one point I did attempt to binge watch the entire thing in order and ended up about halfway through season 6 before I started something else. Friends is just a TV show that never gets old, no matter how many times you've heard Ross say he's fine or Joey ask a girl how she's doing. I mean I literally went about 3-4 years where my Twitter name was Chandler Bing, need I say more?
BIG FAT QUIZ OF THE YEAR
Technically this is a TV show, although there's only one new episode a year I'm still counting it! Even though it's a quiz show I can happily watch these episodes rather often, and for some reason, I don't actually remember the answers (well the answers I didn't already know the first time). Essentially, the show is a comedy show in the style of a pub quiz released around New Year. Three teams, each with two hilarious celebrities each, are quizzed on current events throughout that year and the best team wins! My personal favourite episode is 2007 featuring The Goth Detectives: Russell Brand and Noel Fielding; Rob Brydon (the wonderful Bryn off Gavin and Stacey) and David Mitchell; Jonathan Ross and Lily Allen, so if you watch only one go for that one!
There's five but I will give a few shout-outs to Modern Family, The IT Crowd, Miranda, and Shameless. A few that I wouldn't watch as regular but I don't mind rewatching occasionally.
